Join the robotics team!
Our team, the Steel Dragons, was founded in 1998. We are a robotics team competing in the biggest high school robotics competition in the world, while trying to teach each other engineering, math, computer science, design, and many more subjects. We try our best to offer access to the STEM fields to all students, regardless of background or economic status.
The team kicks off each year in September, meeting once or twice per week to learn the necessaries of robotics and preparing for the build season. Then, during the winter, the team meets every day after school in a lab, typically for 4 to 5 hours (you are not required to stay the entire meeting), where we split up into sub-teams and work to design, build, and program a robot and other assorted projects.
Then, during the spring and summer, we enter into various competitions including the Pittsburgh regional of the FIRST Robotics Competition, held at the Pittsburgh Convention Center, with about 55 other teams. During the months of January, February, and March, the team often spends close to 40 hours per week together preparing for the competitions.
We normally meet once per week from August to December and March to June. Get in contact with us to find out when our next meeting is!
